We serve our community
Outreach is a natural part of the tapestry of ministry at Myers Park Baptist Church. As a community, we are drawn to service and to live out our commission, to be the hands and feet of God. Recognizing the importance of both giving and receiving, we pour back into our community the gifts we have received.
There are many ways to become involved in outreach at Myers Park Baptist Church. We serve our community in the areas of Hunger, Shelter/Homelessness, School Partnerships, Health and Wellness, and Community Investment. There are opportunities in short-term projects such as Saturday or Service or ongoing mentoring at many of our partner agencies.
We invite you to join us and become involved in our efforts to serve our neighbors and truly be a neighbor. It is through these encounters that our faith is strengthened and enriched.
For more information, please contact Cheri Lindblom, Director of Missions, clindblom@mpbconline.org.

We encourage you to find an opportunity in which you feel called to serve.
Shelter and Homelessness

Children and Families
We believe in investing and supporting education in our community. Ttutor a student, staff a book fair or provide teacher support at Sedgefield Middle School, our CMS partner school serving many low-income families. Become involved in the Lakewood Community by becoming a mentor, working with the Cooperative Preschool or going on Saturday morning bike ride with Charlotte Trips for Kids. Room in the Inn 2011 – 2012
Shine Your Light
Every Saturday, December 3 - March 31
By Tara Agnew Harris,
Church Member
It is hard to believe that winter is upon us. This means that homeless neighbors in Charlotte will be faced with harsh cold weather that creeps in and makes life on the streets even more unbearable. What can we do? How can we make a difference? During the dark and cold nights of winter, we challenge you to “shine your light.”
This winter—for the 16th straight year—MPBC will participate in Room in the Inn, an important ministry for our homeless neighbors. Every Saturday night from December through March, we will host 15 homeless neighbors overnight in our church and serve them hot meals and hopefully some comfort and fellowship. We do this through Urban Ministry Center and are grateful to Paul Hanneman of our congregation who is heading up RITI at UMC this year.
We need volunteers like you to come and “shine your light.” Come and help us make breakfast or make beds and pack toiletry kits. Come and serve as an overnight host. Come and provide sack lunches. Come and “shine your light” as Matthew 5:16 challenges us to do. Please sign up by clicking HERE or on the bulletin board in the foyer of Heaton Hall. Also, you can contact me, Tara Agnew Harris, at taraagnew@hotmail.com for more information or to sign up. Each day, I sing “this little light of mine; I’m gonna let it shine” with my two year-old daughter. Help us put this song into practice this winter and volunteer!

This is our 4th annual Oatmeal & Staples Drive. Let's make it better than last year! Oatmeal is known for its significant health benefits, and is a staple in our shelters' daily dietary programs. We will be collecting "old-fashioned" and quick-cook bulk size Oatmeal, 5 lbs. or larger sized bags of white or brown sugar, 5 lbs. or larger sized bags of flour and grits, tea and all types of canned goods for the men, women and children in our homeless shelters throughout the Charlotte area. They are also always in need of toiletry items, slightly used clothing in sizes up to 5X and good used books.

Women’s Wednesdays
January 4, February 1 and March 7
By Cheri Lindblom
‘What is Women’s Wednesdays at MPBC?’ you ask.
Here are the details:
Limited to 15 women
The first Wednesday of January, February and March
Dinner will be served
Fellowship and relationship guaranteed
‘Is it a new Connections Small Group?’ you ask.
In a way it is.
Women’s Wednesdays are what we’re calling our new RITI night in which we only house women. We’ll open our doors and welcome 15 homeless women from the Urban Ministry Center. The program will run much the same as RITI, with the exception of providing dinner. We’ll share our Wednesday evening meal with the congregation in Heaton Hall. We will need volunteers to drive the van for afternoon pick-up and evening drop-off, make the beds and help with room set- up, provide sack lunches and stay for the evening as a host.
It will be a way for us to serve and connect with women in our community who are trying to make a home for themselves.
You can sign up to be a volunteer by clicking HERE, on the RITI bulletin board or by contacting me, Cheri Lindblom, clindblom@mpbconline.org.
