The Art of Cake Decorating for Beginners
Learn the fundamentals of cake decorating including how to level and smoothly ice a cake, how to apply different borders such as shells and beads and how to write on a cake. Discover how to add basic flowers, leaves and simple designs including the classic basket weave . Price includes beginners cake decorating kit.

Learn to build a FREE website using Microsoft Office Live software and get a presence and start making money on the Internet! Great for personal or business use. Assumes basic computer skills.
INSTRUCTOR: Mary Stephenson has training from Microsoft on their Office Live FREE Website building software and she designed and built her own website. She teaches other people how to build their own FREE websites using Office Live software.

Dance - Social Dance Workshop
An ongoing series of fun-filled instruction for dancers with a range of experience, from beginners to experienced dancers. Each class is a five week series and participants can begin with any class. Takes you where you are as a dancer and works with you to increase the ease, enjoyment and diversity in your dance life. Covering all rhythms for social dancing such as shag, swing, mambo, samba, salsa, foxtrot, cha-cha, waltz, etc.
INSTRUCTOR: Richard Cousins, member of U.S.A. Dance, specializes in beginners and likes to “keep it fun and social.” He’s been teaching American style social ballroom dance for 40 years has also performed ballet and in musical theatre.

Family Storytelling Circle
Learn to turn favorite stories, personal memories, and story fragments into a story that can be shared with others. Participate in non-threatening games and activities designed to inspire confidence and poise. Enhance your stories using characterization, voice, and gesture (the “Storyteller’s Toolkit”). Volunteers within the group will tell stories and receive coaching. Come together to share, laugh, love, and learn.
INSTRUCTOR: Janice Davin is a storyteller and an educator. She learned the power of a good story in the classroom by using stories to subdue mutinies and calm savage beasts. Currently, she performs for schools, churches, and retirement communities..

Fondant Fun for Beginners
Come learn how much fun fondant can be! In this class you will learn how to cover a cake in rolled fondant and decorate it with crimping, piping and brush embroidery. Learn how to make fabulous fondant bows and pearls as well as beautiful fondant roses and much more. Working with fondant doesn't have to be scary - come learn how to make your cakes extraordinary!

“Digging Roots on the Web,” using the Internet as your primary resource. With Ted Lucas as your personal research guide, you’ll go to the best sites, learn how to search, and get tips on how to best approach this research – and what to avoid. Assumes basic familiarity with the Internet.
INSTRUCTOR: Ted Lucas has been involved in genealogical research for 30 years, and has helped others navigate the complexities of this research since the internet. He is past president of the Olde Mecklenburg Genealogical Society. A retired pediatrician, he’s actively assisted with many genealogical trees.

Journey into the Writer's Secret Garden I
This course will use stories, quotes, drawing, writing, and sharing in small groups to facilitate the journey of exploration into creative space and use this fertile ground for the magical process of writing. We will explore planting guiding values, periods of silence, guided visualization and rituals like weeding out obstacles to connect the inner and outer symbols and experiences. Participants are encouraged to keep a dream journal.
INSTRUCTOR: Debra Moffitt's fiction and non-fiction essays and articles have appeared in publications in the US, Europe and Asia. Her fiction, Depression Glass, was broadcast globally by BBC World Services Radio. She presents workshops in the US and Europe on connecting writing with symbols and guiding values for self transformation.

Perennials & Annuals for the Piedmont
A visual survey of annuals and perennials that do well in Charlotte, this class provides both beginning as well as experienced gardeners with flower gardening fundamentals, and the opportunity to get answers to individuals' gardening questions. After taking the course students are welcome to visit the instructor's garden which has been on numerous tours.

Photoshop Workshop
This workshop-format course will take you and your project to whatever your next level would be. Whether it’s a restoration of an old family photo (using cloning and layers), fixing a bad expression in a group photo (replacing that face with another of the same person taken at the same time), or trying to improve distinct areas within a landscape (as did Ansel Adams in his printing), bring it on! Your project is our content. Assumes basic familiarity with some version of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Pottery
Open to all levels of experience this course covers wheel, hand building, altering and finishing techniques. Open access to the studio is given to all students enrolled in class (when studio is not in use for other classes) during normal Cornwell Center hours. Enrollment includes 1 (25 lb) bag of clay per class. Extra clay is available at $15 per bag. Tools are available for purchase from the Cornwell Center at $17 per kit.
INSTRUCTOR: Charlotte Myers has been creating functional and decorative pottery for over 12 years. Her artwork has been on display and for sale in various venues in Charlotte and Asheville, NC and was featured in the Asheville Mountaineer.

The Power of Poetry
Examine poems and discuss the uses of image, rhythm, rhyme, diction metaphor and form. Writers of all levels are invited to bring poems already written and waiting to be written as we explore the joys and power of poetry.

Learn to write for magazines and on-line publications including blogs to help bring positive and constructive change. Whether you’re concerned about the environment, health issues, or community, this course for writers at any level will focus on using the written word to make a positive impact in the world. Learn how to query editors and publications, structure articles, do research and interviews, source photos and serve up powerful writing that focuses on making the world a better place.
INSTRUCTOR: Debra Moffitt Leslie writes for publications on both sides of the Atlantic.
