Sheila Ennis, Minister of Education

The educational opportunities at Myers Park Baptist Church are rich and varied, but all share one purpose—a dedication to "sustain a critical examination of scripture, belief and ritual as interpreters of God’s active presence in the world." True to our Baptist heritage, we encourage people of all ages to encounter the bible stories and to decide for themselves the meaning and meaningfulness of scripture. We, therefore, impose no "right interpretation," no catechism, and no creeds that impede the individual’s unique growth into spiritual maturity.

Instead we are a safe place to wrestle with the paradoxes and promises of our faith. This congregation is a family of "priests to one another," as our second Senior Minister, Carlyle Marney, once stated. As such, the laity and the ordained are committed to the educational process of calling out the divine truth in each of us, as we work toward becoming true, authentic images of God.
