From the start of Myers Park Baptist Church more than 60 years ago, thoughtful, formal, liturgical worship has been the tradition. Throughout our history, we have had a deep sense of connection to the classical music of the church. Our choirs sing Gregorian and Anglican chant, psalms, motets, anthems, master choruses, hymn-based compositions and spirituals within the context of worship. Each Sunday, the great classical literature for organ is played on the church's magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ. Several times a year, the church's adult and youth choirs perform major choral/orchestral works.

The Motet Singers is a small invited ensemble of 16-20 singers from the Chancel Choir, who wish to spend extra time devoted to more difficult choral music-making. This ensemble will explore the vast repertoire of music composed for chamber chorus. The Motet Singers will participate in Sunday morning worship services and seasonal services at various times of the year.

The Handbell Choir is for adults and for Senior High aged youth. This choir is designed for people who know how to read music at a basic level, although they need not have previous experience with ringing handbells.

Summer Singers
Choir for summer months - for everyone from children (reading age) to seniors
Rehearsals: Sunday mornings, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.
Shalom Rehearsal Hall
The Summer Singers sing in worship during the summer months when we are on the summer schedule. Rehearsal is at 9:00 a.m. before 10:00 worship. This choir is open to everyone; it's a wonderful time for families to sing together. It's also a good time for people thinking about joining a choir to try us out. The music is easier to learn than the pieces sung during the church year.

YOUTH CHOIRS
The Youth Choir
Rehearsals: Sunday evening, 5:00 - 6:15 p.m.
Shalom Hall

The Youth choir is a place for adolescent youth to learn about their newly changed voices and how to use them properly. Music is chosen with specific vocal ranges to allow young men and women to sing regularly and successfully all through the various stages of vocal change. The choir will sing in the 11:00 a.m. worship service as scheduled. The choir explores a wide variety of music including: classical choral literature, folk-hymns, spirituals, gospel songs, and international ethnic music. Emphasis on creating a musical community is a major priority for this choir. The choir has performed fully staged productions such as GodSpell and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The Youth Choir traditionally begins each season with a retreat at Myrtle Beach and culminates each season with a spring program.

Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
The Chapel Choir is the vocal ensemble for older children in our program that blends together principles of the Royal School of Church Music, Orff-Schulwerk, Musikgarten and Kodály. Each rehearsal provides a creative learning environment for musical development in which children will sing, play Orff instruments, study hymns and continue to develop skills in reading music.

The Carol Choir (Grades 1 and 2)
Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
The beginnings of a faith foundation and the basic rudiments of music and singing are all a part of each rehearsal for these choirs. Both the KinderChoir and Carol Choir will progress through the Music Makers levels of the Musikgarten series, and will learn spiritual concepts and musical skills as they play Orff instruments, participate in musical games, and sing hymns, anthems, and traditional songs.

The KinderChoir
