You were created by God in original blessing (not original sin). In God’s own image you were made and called "good" by God. At your baptism God says to you as to Jesus at his baptism: You are my beloved daughter, son in whom I am well pleased.
Live in that blessed as God’s beloved.
God calls us to the meeting place between our greatest joy, or hunger, and the world’s greatest need. There is such a meeting place for every person, and for every season of our lives.
Buechner explains: Your greatest joy may be writing deodorant commercials but that’s hardly the world’s greatest need. The world’s greatest need may be to be a doctor in a leper colony. But if the very thought of it disgusts you and if you faint at the sight of blood that’s probably not where God is calling you.
There’s no such thing as an uncalled life. May God’s spirit help you discern where you are called to partnership with God in the world.
Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has very rarely ever been tried.
Go give it a try.
Jesus said, "Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these you have done it unto me." Go out and befriend and champion someone whom the world calls "the least of these."
As Mother Teresa said: "Do small things with great love."
Before any great truth becomes a majority truth it is a minority truth, truth grasped by the passionate sons and daughters of God. Don’t be afraid to be in a minority.
As Mark Twain put it: "Be good and you will be lonesome." And as Jimmy Buffett adds: "Be lonely and you will be free!"
What does the Lord require of you, want of you, but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.
So go, walk in justice, walk in kindness and walk in reverence with your God.
What is the greatest commandment? To love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself.
So go: Increase the love of God and neighbor.
Benediction:
May the Lord bless and keep you.
May God’s face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
May God give you the grace never to sell yourself short;grace to risk something big for something good;
grace to remember that the world is now too dangerous for anything but truth
and too small for anything but love.
So may God take your minds and think through them;
may God take your lips and speak through them;
may God take your hearts and set them on fire.
